Full Moon Partial Lunar Eclipse in Pisces August 27th/28th

On August 27th at 9:12 PM PT (that's 12:12 AM EDT on the 28th, for my East Coast folks), the Moon will be full in Pisces and also in partial eclipse. About 96% of it will slip into Earth's shadow. We will see that same coppery, reddish glow a total eclipse gives. So nice!

Here's why this one matters more than your average full moon: This eclipse is happening on the Moon's North Node, and it's the last stop in a Pisces eclipse journey that's been evolving since September 2024.

NN Eclipse Explained:

The Moon's nodes are two points where the Moon's orbit crosses the Sun's path.

The North Node is associated with growth, forward motion, and the life opportunities and experiences we find ourselves in (that create expansion for us), even when it's unfamiliar or uncomfortable. When an eclipse lands on the North Node, it accelerates all of these things. It pushes situations forward in motion.

So this isn't a quiet, reflective full moon. It's a full moon with its foot on the gas and pedal to the metal (a.k.a maximum speed).

This is the finale:

Since September 2024, eclipses have been landing on the Virgo-Pisces axis, and this is the last one in that cycle. Two years is a long time to be reworking one part of your chart, so this eclipse is less about a new life plot twist and more about closing a loop.

Wherever Pisces lives in your own chart (check the house and any planets), that's the part of your life that's been under construction. Think in terms of the past two years: what began, what ended, what finally got resolved. If you've been circling the same lesson since 2024, this eclipse is likely to bring it to a head and be like "Finish it! K Thanks."

What Pisces brings to the table

Pisces is a water sign ruled by Jupiter: imagination, empathy, emotional generosity are the themes here. The shadow side is that Pisces can blur boundaries, avoid the truths, or totally check out rather than face uncomfortable situations. An eclipse in this sign could shine the light on areas where you've been doing that.

How to work with this energy

  • Keep your schedule flexible around the eclipse if you can. Eclipse energy can throw curveballs, so give yourself and others room to need some extra time.
  • Pay attention to any areas, situations or things you've needed to handle that you've been avoiding. That's in line with the classic Pisces avoidance, and this eclipse is going to have a field day pointing that out to you.
  • Let the big feelings flow. Just as Pisces (a fish) swims and flows with water, Lunar eclipses magnify emotion, so this is a good week to journal, cry it out if you need to, or just let something out through words in a safe space. This is NOT the time to hold anything in.
  • Be honest about what you've outgrown in life. Think about what will not fit into your next chapter. Even if you say you don't know what those are, your conscience does and so does your body. Pay attention to those subtle queues of confirmation. Eclipses close doors so you might as well close it on purpose and with your own will instead of waiting for the universe to yoink it away from you.

A couple questions to sit with

What's changed in your life since September 2024 that you should sit with in the next day or two?  Where in your life have you just been chillin' in the comfy zone of avoidance instead of dealing with something head on?

As always, this is a forecast, not anyones fate. The eclipse can set the stage, bring the energy and align things for us but free will always wins, and you're in the driver's seat. Hold onto your magick and let this chapter close so a new fresh one can be written.

Virgo Season 2026

Virgo season begins today: Saturday, August 22, 2026 at 10:19 PM EDT (7:19 PM PDT). As Leo season is coming to an end for 2026 we are reminded of the energy of Leo. It's in the spotlight, front and center and ready to be seen. In the Northern hemisphere the colder months are ahead and Virgo energy is entering the chat with organization, details and stillness.

  • The Sacred Meaning of this Season and How to Work With It!

Let's Talk About the Cusp Babies First....

Virgo season ends the instant the Sun reaches 0° Libra, which is also the September Fall/Autumn equinox. Depending on where you live and where you were born (if you were born on the 23rd like me), you may be a Virgo or you may be a Libra. In the Americas, Virgo season closes on the evening of the 22nd. In the UK, Europe, and everywhere further east, it runs into the 23rd.

Here's the important part if your birth day falls in this window: The Sun enters Libra anywhere from September 21 to 23 depending on the year, because the tropical year runs roughly 365.2422 days while our calendar insists on 365.

This is why so many people born around September 22 and 23 have spent their whole lives unsure whether they are Virgo or Libra. The cutoff can be different. If that is you, the only way to tell is to run your birth chart with your exact birth time.

Moving from Leo to Virgo

The year-long trip around the zodiac from the Sun, gives each of the twelve archetypes a turn in the spotlight, which is how we get repeated practice with the parts of ourselves that we still need to work on.

Leo season just gave us permission to play more, take up space, let our passions come to the forefront, share the cool thing you made. The Sun rules Leo, so that month runs at full brightness, speed and fire energy by natural design. And did anyone else realize that fire energy just made the month fly by? Hello?

Virgo season on the other hand is giving us a totally different type of vibe. Think ... refinement, small intentional adjustments made over and over until they add up to something you could not have built quickly or with so much spotlight on you. Leo shines the spotlight on doing you what you love and Virgo makes you focus on how you plan to serve the collective with that gift.

All About Virgo Season Energy

Mutable (flexible) Earth, ruled by Mercury (the planet of communication) is the combination that gives you a sign that is by nature, very practical, health conscious, adaptable, pattern recognizing, observant and constantly gathering information.

Virgo is also the sign of the harvest in the Northern Hemisphere, which is where the whole archetype comes from. Harvest work is all about sorting and separating the grain from the husk. Where we keep what feeds and place the rest back into the Earth for renewal and regeneration. The idea of harvesting and even the practice is the energy that Virgo embodies.

This is the stage where we develop discernment. Which foods fuel us and which ones are empty for the soul. Also, which people nourish your energy and which ones drain it. What habits nuture out life path and which ones cause us to waste away. Discernment is the skill of telling those apart and Virgo energy is quite strong here.

Mercury's rulership adds the mental side of the coin. Observation, detail, self-analysis and the habit of asking questions instead of assuming.

How can you channel this? When you're travelling through life and something doesn't go as planned, instead of focusing on "Why is this happening TO me?", Virgo energy will ask "What is the lesson in this difficult time?"

That question changes any setbacks or victim mentality into information. Every mistake, setback, hiccup and hurdle carry important data and lessons, and Virgo is very good at understanding this.

Who Feels This Season Most

If you have planets or angles in the mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces), you are definitely going to be channeling this energy much more!

Look hard at your habits, daily choices, and any routines taht may be running on autopilot. Bring order and intention to your inner world and to your physical spaces. Notice where your life needs more intention and more devotion.

The Sky Dancers in Virgo Season 2026

This season opens inside the eclipse window, which is the two-week stretch between the two eclipses of a season. That makes the first half of Virgo season super charged.

August 25 to September 10, Mercury Comes Home

Mercury follows the Sun into Virgo on August 25 and stays until September 10
Mercury rules Virgo, so it's definitely in the comfy zone withe some great energy for writing, editing, speaking, teaching, studying, and ordinary daily communication.

If you have a project that needs attention with smoother completion, this is the window. Editing a manuscript, learning a skill, building or delivering a presentation, writing short form content. Mercury in its own sign rewards detail work.

August 2026: Total Solar Eclipse in Leo by Rising Sign

The total solar eclipse peaks on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 at 1:36 PM EDT, with the Sun and Moon meeting near 20° Leo. The house that holds that degree in your chart is the part of your life this eclipse came for.

This is the companion piece to my full breakdown of the August 12 total solar eclipse, which walks through the chart in detail. Start there for context, then come back here for your own placement.

Find your rising sign below and read that section.  If you are unsure of your rising sign, enter your birth date, birth time, and birth city on my free birthchart form and you will have it in about two minutes. Start with your rising sign and check your Sun sign afterward, since the rising tends to describe your lived experience more accurately.

Three Things That Apply to Everyone

The Sun is eclipsed in its own sign. Leo belongs to the Sun, so this eclipse lands smack dab at the source. Leo embodies confidence, creativity, romance, leadership, and everything to do with being seen. When the planet that governs visibility blacks out and comes back, we can bet we are going to experience some force. Whatever you've been doing to publicly shine, that method is coming to an end because the way forward will be with growth and new ways of authenticity.

Mercury and Jupiter are in Leo alongside the eclipse. Mercury handles the language, communication, ideas, and the news. Jupiter handles growth and opportunity. Jupiter arrived in Leo at the end of June (2026) and remains there until July of next year, so this eclipse serves as the starting point on a much lengthier run.

The effects take about six months to play out or see a shift. Eclipse week is typically the first domino in a sequence of dominos to get knocked over. Over the next 6 months, with attention and connection to self you will begin to notice growth and change. Write things down and take note of everything. The significant situation that surfaces this month will make so much more sense in 6 months. If possible, try not to make major decisions while the eclipse is still activated, since we don't really see the full picture until the end. BUT...huge BUT....live your life. Don't stop life ever. Always follow your intuition. Do track what shows up for you, track what leaves or expires in your life, and make moves once you see the full picture.

NOTE: Eclipses arrive in pairs, and this one opens a season that wraps up two weeks later with a partial lunar eclipse at 5° Pisces on August 28 (mark that on your calendar). The Leo eclipse starts something and the Pisces one that follows tends to show you what has to clear out for that new thing to have room in your life.

♌ Leo Rising: 1st House

Identity, body, appearance, and how you connect with the world.

This eclipse is yours in the most literal sense. It lands right on your rising sign, which turns this into a rare window for reintroducing yourself to everyone including you in the most authentic way. The person you have been is wrapping up their chapter, and the one arriving next is ready to show up for you. With Jupiter already parked in your sign, opportunity has a habit of following you whenever you show up. Accept the visibility even when your voice shakes and you feel uncomfortable.

♍ Virgo Rising: 12th House

Rest, closure, solitude, the unconscious, and everything running behind the scenes.

In the tarot deck, your card is the Hermit. The hermit take space and time to itself. Your experience of this eclipse is quiet. Some weight you have been hauling around, whether it's resentment, a bad habit, or a chapter that ended a while ago (on paper, verbally or over text), is finally ready to completely close before your season starts. You may feel some friction here. This is a good time to sleep, journal, and spend unscheduled time alone to let the deeper layers of your journey sort themselves out. Whatever you put down for good during this window makes room for a much bolder and brighter cycle ahead.

♎ Libra Rising: 11th House

Friendships, networks, community, and long-term goals.

Your social world is re-working itself. Some people arrive and quickly become important while others will drift off with (surprisingly) very little drama and as a reality check, it's usually the ones you outgrew a while back but weren't ready to accept it. Right now, collaboration and finding the room full of people who match your belief systems and morals is where you're moving into. Whatever you build over the next year is going to be alongside like-minded people so be sure to let them in.

♏ Scorpio Rising: 10th House

Career, public reputation, authority, and legacy.

The eclipse lands on your professional life, and this placement moves quickly. A promotion, a sudden change of direction, or an unexpected opportunity to lead are all within range right now. When you grow out of a role, an eclipse here has a way of ending it on your behalf. It's like "Thank you, next (and greater)!". Don't think small right now. Aim high during this window and let people watch you do work you are proud of.

♐ Sagittarius Rising: 9th House

Travel, higher education, publishing, belief, and meaning.

A trip (either domestically, internationally or through couch travel), taking a new course, or having one idea that keeps bugging you can redirect the next twelve months. When your views and ideas become to big for its current container, the container is going to burst. That's what the eclipse will rearrange for you.

♑ Capricorn Rising: 8th House

Shared resources, intimacy, debt, inheritance, and transformation.

This eclipse activates joint finances and the intimate business of tying your life to someone else's. Investments, loans, and inheritances can settle or reorganize during this period. Take an inventory of what you owe, what is owed to you, and the places where trust in these areas has potential to expand.

♒ Aquarius Rising: 7th House

Partnership, marriage, close one on one relationships, and open adversaries.

The eclipse sits across the wheel from your rising sign, which means it reaches you through other people. Partnerships get more serious, you receive clarity on the way forward, or they may reach their natural ending, and that applies to business arrangements and platonic friendships as much as romantic relationships. Don't just hang around while you wait for someone to initiate anything. Instead, state your own position clearly and let their answer follow. Relationships with a solid foundation usually come through this stronger, and the ones running on autopilot of lack of initiation probably won't last.

♓ Pisces Rising: 6th House

Daily routine, work habits, health, service, and pets.

Your version of this eclipse is practical and unglamorous, but so purposeful. New job, revised schedule, or a health signal that turns out to be worth listening to and taking action on are all typical. Small daily choices compound fast over the next half year, which means the ordinary Tuesday version of your life is exactly where the change needs to be made. Note for Pisces: the lunar eclipse on August 28 falls in Pisces, so this entire season hits you twice. This is a great opportunity for improvement and making changes that will help your journey.

♈ Aries Rising: 5th House

Creativity, romance, play, children, and self-expression.

Leo is at home in the fifth house, which makes this one of the warmer placements this eclipse can take. A romance can ignite, a creative project can finally find its audience, or plans involving children can suddenly speed up. Your assignment is simple and possibly a little frightening? Build the thing, speak your feelings and just take the chance. Moving outside the comfort zone is necessary. Ask yourself : "Is the thing I'm doing scary and makes me feel bad? Or is it scary but also exciting and expansive." Go with expansion and growth!

♉ Taurus Rising: 4th House

Home, family, roots, and your private life.

Your foundation gets stirred and shaken up some. Relocation, remodeling, a changed dynamic with a relative, or a realization of what home even means to you are all on the cards on the table. You're most likely to have active feelings that sit close to the surface throughout this window, so use them as useful data about what your needs are. Build the foundation your future requires of you, there's no better time to start.

♊ Gemini Rising: 3rd House

Communication, siblings, local community, learning, and daily conversation.

Your voice is in the spotlight. An email, offer, sudden opportunity, or a piece of work can put you in front of people who have never encountered you before. Writers, teachers, speakers, and anyone whose job is connecting people: consider this your sign to start and put yourself out there! Mercury rules your chart and happens to be sitting in Leo right beside the eclipse, which gives your words extra weight and validity right now. Speak up!

♋ Cancer Rising: 2nd House

Money, resources, possessions, and self-worth.

The eclipse lands on what you earn and what you value. One source of income can wind down or completely disappear, so a stronger one has room to start. Or maybe you finally ask to be paid what your work is worth. Where you start realizing "Yeah, I deserve more." (because you do). Over the next six months, watch what parts of your 2nd house themes take hold and stick around. For some people it turns out to be the balance in the account. For others it's a mobile skill they can take when they move, or a slist of trusty people who would answer the phone at midnight for them.

A Note on Free Will

These are house themes, and every choice inside them belongs to you. Astrology maps the terrain and you pick the route. Read your rising sign first, your Sun sign second, and trust what you recognize in your own life over any forecast, mine included.

New to houses or eclipses? My guide to the lunar nodes and my natal chart basics series both cover the fundamentals. And the main eclipse post has the full chart breakdown.

Total Solar Eclipse in Leo, August 12, 2026

On Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at 1:36 PM EDT (10:36 AM PDT / 5:36 PM UTC), the Moon slides directly in front of the Sun at 20°02' of Leo, and a New Moon becomes a total solar eclipse. Greatest eclipse follows minutes later at 5:47 PM UTC.

This is the opening event of the second eclipse season of 2026 and it definitely has a double dose of fire energy.

If you have been feeling like something in your life is reorganizing itself, changing or there's an upheaval with your comfort zone, but not sure what exactly is happening at the same time, this is why.

Let me walk you through what's going on, why this particular eclipse carries so much weight, and how you can work with it in a way that helps you feel grounded instead of flailing through it with eyes wide shut.

First, a Quick Refresher on Eclipses

Eclipses only happen near the lunar nodes, the two points where the Moon's orbital path crosses the ecliptic. That is why they arrive in seasons roughly every six months instead of showing up at every New and Full Moon. (If the nodes are new territory for you, start with my lunar nodes explanation and then come back here.)

A solar eclipse is a New Moon on energy drinks. Every New Moon plants a seed and a solar eclipse plants one with force, on a timeline that you didn't really plan for. The story that begins here unfolds over roughly the next six months.

Total solar eclipses are the rarest and most dramatic version of this. The Moon covers the Sun completely, and for a couple of minutes the sky goes dark in the middle of the day. It can be both disorienting and amazing to witness.

Ancient cultures across the world read these eclipses as sacred moments. Many traditions still do. Both Hindu practice and Diné (Navajo) tradition treat eclipse time as a period for stillness, prayer, and staying inside rather than spectating. Whatever your own practice looks like, the underlying instinct is worth adopting...meaning... this is a good time to go quiet and pay attention.

The Degree That Matters: 20° Leo

The eclipse falls at 20°02' of Leo, which means it lands most directly on anyone with planets or chart angles between roughly 15° and 25° of the fixed signs: Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius.

If that describes your chart, this eclipse is very personal to you. You are in a life turning point right now and I think you know it. While this is a purposeful turning point that will catapult you in the right direction, let's acknowledge that it can feel kinda yucky. That's ok though it's temporary.

Everyone else still feels this eclipse too just in different areas of their chart. Every chart contains all twelve signs, so Leo is somewhere in yours whether or not you have planets there. That area of your chart is what this eclipse is working on, and your rising sign is all you need to find it.

So here is the shortcut. Head to the companion post, which house this eclipse is impacting for you, find your rising sign, and read that section. It will tell you exactly which part of your life is up for review.

If you do not know your rising sign yet, it takes two minutes. Enter your birth date, your birth time, and your birth city at Astro.com or Cafe Astrology, and it will tell you. Birth time matters here, so use the most accurate one you can find. Your birth certificate is the gold standard.

Curious what the rest of your chart is doing? My natal chart basics series walks through the whole wheel from scratch.

Understanding the Nodes

To understand the energy of when the nodes change signs and how you personally will be impacted, you need to know what the Nodes mean and represent:

They're NOT planets. They're mathematical points where the Moon's orbital path crosses the Sun's. My favorite thing about the nodes is that they quite literally map out our life path. History lesson: Cultures all over the world, looked at an eclipse and each independently decided that something was "eating the light". Dragons and serpents show up again and again. The version astrology inherited comes from India, where the nodes are Rahu and Ketu, the severed head and tail of a being that keeps chasing the Sun and Moon across the sky. That image traveled through Persian and Arabic astrology into Europe, where the nodes became the Dragon's Head and the Dragon's Tail. We still use those names today.
The North Node = the head, the mouth and the whole appetite or the hunger of the dragon.
The South Node = the tail or the part that is intended to release and let go.
When the Sun or Moon passed through either end the dragon swallows the light. We know this better (in modern day) as an eclipse! The Full Meaning of Each Node South (SN) is our comfort zone. This is all the skills you default to, the identity you take on everyday and the place that feels most natural. BUT .... there's a slight problem. This is also the place where you get stuck and prevent yourself from growing. This is the place that (according to astrology), you've lived comfortably in for multiple lives. The goal is to step away from the South and move to the North North (NN) is our North Star. It's uncharted and unfamiliar territory. It can be scary and chaotic feeling. BUT...it generates a hunger in us. Sometimes if might feel like we are pretending to be someone we aren't because we are moving AWAY from the comfort zone. That's the point! Example: If your SN is in Gemini, you are heavily reliant on logic and analysis. Directly across from Gemini is Sagittarius so this would be your North Node (NN). The goal for this lifetime is to move toward Sag energy where you focus on freedom and expansion of the mind and gain your knowledge through lived experience. One more thing: the nodes always sit exactly opposite each other. So they describe a pair of signs and a pair of houses at the same time.
